Jerry Pinto is a celebrated literary figure, known for his versatility as a poet, novelist, editor, and translator. His debut novel, Em and the Big Hoom, won The Crossword Prize, the Hindu Lit for Life Award, and the Sahitya Akademi Award, while his crime novel Murder in Mahim earned the Valley of Words Award for Fiction. He was also awarded the Windham-Campbell Prize for Fiction (Yale, USA, 2016).
An accomplished translator, he has brought iconic works like Daya Pawar’s Baluta and Sachin Kundalkar’s Cobalt Blue to wider audiences. His nonfiction book Helen: The Life and Times of a Bollywood H-Bomb won the National Award for Best Writing in Cinema, and his latest work, Citizen Gallery, chronicles the history of Chemould Art Gallery. Pinto is also a children’s author, with books like Anya and Her Baby Brother and My Daddy and the Well earning recognition on the Parag Honours List. His poetry collections include Asylum and I Want a Poem and Other Poems. Passionate about child rights, he serves on the board of MelJol and has previously taught journalism at Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai.
