K. Hariharan

Filmmaker | Educator | Film Historian

K. Hariharan is a renowned filmmaker, educator, and film historian, with a career spanning over four decades. A graduate of FTII (1973), he co-founded the Yukt Film Cooperative, producing Ghashiram Kotwal (1978), which was screened at the Berlin Film Festival.
His Tamil film Ezhavathu Manithan won the National Award (1983) and the Afro-Asian Solidarity Award at the Moscow Film Festival. Hariharan has directed feature films in Tamil and Hindi, including Current (1992), starring Om Puri and Deepti Naval, and has made over 350 short films for Doordarshan and other platforms. As an academic, he has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and multiple institutions in the USA and India, including LV Prasad Film & TV Academy, which he founded in 2005. His latest book, Kamal Haasan: A Cinematic Journey (2024), chronicles the legendary actor’s career. He is now exploring immersive VR/AR storytelling, bringing his vast experience into new-age cinema and media technologies.
