Ashok Gopal is the 2024 Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay NIF Book Prize and Karwaan Book Award winner for his critically acclaimed biography, A Part Apart: The Life and Thought of B.R. Ambedkar (Navayana, 2023).
A history graduate, he worked as a journalist for 15 years before transitioning to the non-profit sector, where he has spent over a decade developing school-based programs that promote constitutional values and competencies.
A dedicated scholar of Ambedkar’s thought since 2004, A Part Apart is his first major book, offering a deep and nuanced exploration of Ambedkar’s life, beliefs, and impact on Indian democracy. He is based in Pune.
