Paralympic Medalist | Padma Shri Awardee | Disability Rights Advocate
Dr. Deepa Malik is India’s first female Paralympic medalist, winning silver in shot put at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. A Padma Shri, Khel Ratna, and Arjuna Awardee, she has won 23 international medals and 68 national and state medals, along with four Limca World Records in adventure sports.
Despite chest-below paralysis for 25 years, she has made history as India’s first paraplegic woman biker, swimmer, and rallyist.
As the first woman President of the Paralympic Committee of India, she led the country to its highest-ever medal tally at the Tokyo Paralympics and the 2023 Asian Para Games. She is currently the South Asian Sub-Region Representative of the Asian Paralympic Committee (2024).
Beyond sports, Dr. Malik is a social activist and founder of Wheeling Happiness, empowering people with disabilities. She serves as a government brand ambassador for Swachh Bharat, TB Mukt Bharat, and Viksit Bharat and actively advocates for diversity and inclusion.
