Dr. Jaimini Bhagwati

Dr. Jaimini Bhagwati is a distinguished figure with a diverse and accomplished career spanning various sectors. Currently, he serves as a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) in New Delhi.

He is a member of the Board of Directors for prominent institutions such as Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) Ltd., IDFC First Bank, and Apollo Tyres Ltd.

His earlier roles include serving as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Chair Professor for macroeconomics at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) and holding the position of India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and India’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg. In these roles, his responsibilities extended to NATO and the World Customs Organization.

During his tenure as a diplomat, he was responsible for regions including Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Caucasus countries, and organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Trilateral Forum (Russia-India-China), and BRICS.

Dr. Bhagwati has also contributed significantly to the financial sector, with roles at the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance. At the World Bank, he served as Chief of Corporate Finance, overseeing risk management, investment portfolios, and derivatives transactions. He played a crucial role in managing the World Bank’s substantial balance sheet.

His educational background includes degrees in Physics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, a Master’s in Finance from MIT Sloan School, and a PhD from Tufts University. He has also completed executive development programs at Harvard University and is proficient in Spanish.

Dr. Bhagwati is a prolific author, with numerous publications, including working papers, book chapters, and a book titled “The Promise of India: How Prime Ministers Nehru to Modi Shaped the Nation (1947-2019).”

He has also been a columnist in Indian newspapers since 2005, offering valuable insights into various topics. Dr. Jaimini Bhagwati’s rich and diverse career reflects his expertise in diplomacy, finance, and economics, making him a respected figure in both academic and policy circles.
