His novel, “Em and the Big Hoom,” stands out as a masterpiece, earning him The Crossword Prize, the Hindu Lit for Life Award, and the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award. In 2016, the Windham-Campbell Award for Fiction from Yale, USA, recognized his exceptional storytelling. “Murder in Mahim,” another of his novels, was honored with the Valley of Words Award for Fiction, solidifying his reputation as a prolific writer.
Jerry Pinto’s literary contributions extend to translation, where he’s renowned for translating significant works like Daya Pawar’s “Baluta” and Sachin Kundalkar’s “Cobalt Blue.” His translations are celebrated for their depth and insight.
In nonfiction, Pinto’s work shines. He received the National Award for the Best Writing in Cinema for his analysis of “Helen: The Life and Times of a Bollywood H-Bomb.” His latest project is a biography titled “Citizen Gallery,” chronicling the history of Chemould Art.
Pinto also engages young readers with books like “Anya and Her Baby Brother” and “My Daddy and the Well,” earning recognition on the Parag Honours List. As a poet, he has two collections, “Asylum” and “I Want a Poem and Other Poems,” to his name.
Beyond his literary pursuits, Jerry Pinto actively promotes child rights through his involvement on the boards of organizations like MelJol. He has also shared his knowledge as a teacher, having taught journalism at the postgraduate Social Communications Media course at the Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai. Currently, he’s translating the next novel by Konkani Dnyaanpeeth award winner Damodar Mauzo. Pinto’s extensive body of work continues to inspire readers worldwide.
