Mani Ratnam is one of India’s most acclaimed filmmakers, known for revolutionizing Indian cinema with his distinct storytelling and visual brilliance. Starting his career with Pallavi Anupallavi (1983), he gained recognition with Mouna Ragam (1986), a film that redefined Tamil cinema’s narrative style.
His groundbreaking films such as Nayakan (1987), Roja (1992), and Bombay (1995) tackled social and political themes with compelling storytelling, rich cinematography, and unforgettable music. A recipient of multiple National and State Awards, Mani Ratnam was honored with the Padma Shri (2002) and has been celebrated at international film festivals, including Toronto and Venice. His collaboration with A.R. Rahman has produced some of the most iconic soundtracks in Indian cinema. His latest epic, Ponniyin Selvan (2022 & 2023), became one of the biggest box-office successes in Indian history, once again redefining cinematic standards.
