Rear-Admiral Sudarshan Shrikhande (Retd.)

Naval Strategist | Military Scholar | Geopolitical Analyst

Rear-Admiral Sudarshan Shrikhande (Retd.) is a distinguished naval officer, strategist, and scholar with extensive expertise in sea-based nuclear deterrence, operational strategy, and Indo-Pacific geopolitics.
A 1979 graduate of the Defence Academy, he holds advanced degrees in Weapon and Sonar Engineering (Soviet Naval War College), Military Science (Indian Staff College), and MPhil (Indian Naval War College), along with highest distinction from the U.S. Naval War College (2003). During his illustrious career in the Indian Navy, he commanded INS Nishank, Kora, and Rajput and served as India’s Defense Attaché to Australia and the South Pacific. In flag rank, he held key leadership positions, including Chief of Naval Intelligence, Chief of Staff (Southern Naval Command), and Flag Officer for Doctrines and Concepts.

Post-retirement, he continues to shape strategic thought as a Senior Research Fellow (Maitri Fellow) at ANCORS, University of Wollongong, and Adjunct Professor at the Naval War College, Goa. He teaches at India’s National Defence College and War Colleges, engaging in strategic discussions, Track 1.5 & 2 diplomacy, and international defense research.
