Speaker

Shafat Ali Khan

Member of Royal Family

Nawab Shafath Ali Khan, a distinguished member of the royal family of Hyderabad, has dedicated his life to the preservation of India’s wildlife. Deeply connected to South India’s forests, he utilizes his expertise to address the threat to Indian flora, fauna, and particularly, the endangered tiger.

As a unique response, Khan proposed a holistic, pragmatic law alternative to the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, currently under government consideration. An authorized hunter since age 19, he shifted from hunting to tranquilizing and capturing dangerous animals. His NGO, Wildlife Tranqui Force, educates others in this method. Khan’s contribution to minimizing man-animal conflict extends to advising on innovative technologies such as solar-powered bore-wells and fencing. His blueprint for fodder growth within National Parks is being followed by several state Forest Departments. A gold-medallist sports shooter and passionate wildlife photographer, Khan’s courage and dedication exemplify his commitment to realistic conservation.
