Sudha Murty

Author and Philanthropist

Smt. Sudha Murty, a Padma Bhushan awardee, is a symbol of generosity and hope for millions. Born on August 19, 1950, in Shiggaon, North Karnataka, she is celebrated as a prolific author, philanthropist, engineer, and visionary.

 As the founder of the Murty Trust, she diligently works to safeguard India’s art, culture, and knowledge systems. Her Infosys Foundation has constructed schools, hospitals, and orphanages countrywide, positively affecting thousands. Particularly significant is her work with the Devadasi community, enabling over three thousand women to achieve financial independence. In addition, she facilitated relief during sixteen natural disasters and constructed numerous libraries and sanitation facilities. An acclaimed author, her writings, including Grandmother’s Bag of Stories and Three Thousand Stitches, have sold over 80 lakh copies, and have been translated into several languages. Honoured with multiple awards such as the Padma Shri, Sahitya Academy Award, and the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature, Smt. Murty’s transformative vision continues to inspire and effect change.
